Introducing performance artist Loretta Lau, who will join me at 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗣𝗘𝗢𝗣𝗟𝗘 𝗨𝗡𝗜𝗧𝗘𝗗 - 𝗡𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟮, 𝟳 𝗽𝗺 - see https://www.rickerchoi.com/concerts for details. Loretta Lau was born in British Hong Kong. She worked as a high school art teacher for seven years and witnessed the significant changes that occurred after Hong Kong was handed over to China following British colonization. Since 2018, she has been living in Prague, pursuing her master’s degree in Fine Art. Art and politics have been inseparable from Loretta’s life since the start of the Hong Kong Movement in 2019. In May 2021, she became the director of the 我地 NGO DEI, a Hong Kong art and culture center based in the Czech Republic and the Netherlands.

Her first performance, entitled “Letter to My People,” took place in June, 2019, at DOX, where she was shaved as a symbol of an impending prison sentence. (https://shorturl.at/94wzN)

Four months later, she presented a public art performance called “Memory Eraser” at the National Theater in Prague, during which she was held in a 2-meter white cube for 24 hours. (https://shorturl.at/9g2ok) Her performances explore the boundaries between political and personal identities and are exhibited throughout Europe. She was also invited to be a speaker at Forum 2000 and has been reported on by several major international press outlets, including Hong Kong Free Press, Sankei Shimbun, The Guardian, and The Diplomat.
