【獨媒報導】2019年7月21日，不少人事後回想，該日是香港的分水嶺。民陣當日發起遊行重申五大訴求，並按警方要求，下午由維園出發，於灣仔盧押道解散，民陣宣布有43萬人參加。民陣在遊行終點呼籲市民自行解散，有示威者佔領金鐘夏愨道，亦有大批示威者高喊「光復香港，時代革命」前往中聯辦，於晚上7時許抵達。示威者噴黑中聯辦外閉路電視、塗鴉外牆，並向大樓投擲漆彈，染黑國徽，又發表宣言重申五大訴求。
晚上8時許，警方開始推進，大批示威者大喊「光復香港，時代革命」往中環方向離開。雙方其後繼續對峙，政府於近10時發稿強烈譴責示威者衝擊中央駐港機構，警方並於10時許多次發射催淚彈及開槍驅散示威者。
另一邊廂，當日傍晚大批白衣人在元朗鳳攸北街聚集，並追打途經市民。至晚上10時許，逾百名白衣人手持木棍和藤條進入元朗西鐵站、月台及車廂襲擊市民，多人受傷，包括時任《立場新聞》記者何桂藍。市民多次致電999報案熱線均未能接通，元朗及天水圍警署亦拉上鐵閘，警方最終在接報39分鐘後才到場，惟當時白衣人已離開。警察撤退後，白衣人再折返元朗站及追入商場對市民施襲，當晚無人被拘捕。
元朗7.21事件至今共22人被控暴動罪，包括14名白衣人及8名非白衣人。就白衣人案，共9人認罪或被裁定罪成，判囚3年半至7年，部分人提上訴；另一人罪脫，遭律政司上訴。另有2人擬認罪，2人不認罪，分別於今年9月及2025年1月開審。就非白衣人案，一名會計師罪成判囚2年9個月，（法官李慶年判刑時指，不論是白衣人的暴力、使用武器或預謀的程度，都比非白衣人一方嚴重，「當然，非白衣人以武力還擊、以暴亦暴，也要付出代價」）。至於林卓廷和另外6人的案件，將於9月進行結案陳詞。
另外，3名男子涉7.21兩周月參與非法集結及「私了」等，承認暴動、非法集結、非法禁錮等罪，分別判囚4年9個月、40個月及勞教中心。林卓廷則涉披露負責調查7.21事件的警司游乃強正被廉政公署調查，被裁定3項「披露受調查人身分的罪行」罪成，他其後上訴得直，律政司提終極上訴，將於明年2月聆訊。
