Open Letter to PM Keir Starmer: Urgent Action Needed for Hong Kong’s 45 Pro-Democracy FiguresToday, we, 22 UK-Hong Kong civil society organisations, express our deep frustration at the lack of action from the UK government regarding the unjust and heavy sentences of Hong Kong’s 45 pro-democracy activists.
Prime Minister Starmer, as a human rights advocate, must lead by example:
1.) Demand the release of political prisoners.
2.) Impose visa restrictions on Hong Kong officials responsible for implementing the National Security Law.
3.) Apply targeted sanctions to human rights violators.
4.) The UK has a legal and moral obligation to stand firm against oppression and defend human rights and democracy.
