Hello All! I hope you are enjoying a wonderful summer so far!
This is Amity Chan, DC-based artist. I am so happy to share with you my new group exhibition at Studio Gallery DC, as their Jennie Lea Knight Fellow.
In this show, titled Butterflies in the Outhouse, I will be exhibiting three sets of photographs showcasing different views of Hong Kong during the age of protest.
I am excited to invite you to the Opening Reception this Saturday (7/20) from 4-6 pm at Studio Gallery DC to celebrate successes of the show with me and many other Studio Gallery Artists as well as to honor the ongoing attention towards the resilience of the Hong Kongers.
Visit Studio Gallery DC: 2108 R St. NW, Washington, DC 20008

About my photographs: The "Coexistence" series offers viewers a fresh perspective on the 2019 Hong Kong protests. Through paired photographs taken during my visits in 2019 and 2020, the series captures moments that reveal both the city's unrest and its underlying tranquility. Alongside the urgent issues of human rights abuses and police brutality, these images also showcase glimpses of everyday calmness and resilience—such as street art and protest messages created by demonstrators, and historical architecture that has witnessed the city's evolution. They encourage reflection on the coexistence of struggle and peace, urging us to appreciate moments of quiet strength amidst challenging times.
Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions
I hope to see you there!
Best,
Amity
