Statement
15 July 2022
We are all very disappointed and sad on the re-arrest of Tsang Chi-Kin 曾志健. We would like to make a brief statement:-
Friends of Hong Kong had ceased functions since October 2021. The decision was taken to close our Twitter account and webpage but to remain our Facebook page for archival purposes. This was well known within the UK.
We have always been a very small organisation. When we became aware of the support and need from Tsang back in December 2020, we released that statement on behalf of Tsang. We stand by on our beliefs for the need to release that statement.
The functions of Friends of Hong Kong had never been through crowdfunding. We did for a short time, unrelated to the support of Tsang, had a small subscription plan that was active for 1 month. The amount received was within £300. Friends of Hong Kong had always operated out of personal funds.
We never seek funding for Tsang, any such attempts had nothing to do with Friends of Hong Kong or any members of Friends of Hong Kong. On a personal basis, our members had provided support. Any further support made to Tsang was never handled by Friends of Hong Kong and we had never seek to do so.
The operations of the YouTube Channel Tuesday Road 升旗易得道 is in no way related to Friends of Hong Kong. Indeed, certain members had met the 2 hosts in December 2020 but we had huge disagreements on beliefs and ended communications or support within weeks.
No members at Friends of Hong Kong were made aware of the organisations and planning in Sai Kung.
