The Pillar of Shame was confiscated by National Security Police for investigation last Friday. The statue creator, Jens Galschiøt, call it "completely crazy".
“The [Hong Kong] Alliance and this group of people who are in jail now that I worked together with a long time ago… they have nothing to do with that,” the sculptor said.
The pillar was created by Danish artist, Jens Galschiøt, in 1997 to commemorate the causalities in Tianeman Square massacre. Since then, it was exhibited at Hong Kong University until Dec 2021.
Using safety as an excuse, the school removed the pillar while the students were away in Dec 2021. Since then, Galschiøt claimed that the pillar is his private property and asked the school to return his art. However, the school has never returned the pillar.
