It has been almost two years since the UK Government created a route for Hong Kongers to settle in the UK. In that time, we have seen over 140,000 BN(O) passport holders arrive, with significant numbers settling in Bristol. How do we respond as churches? How can we support young families? Do we need Cantonese language provision? How do we integrate?

In response to these questions and more the Diocese of Bristol are holding a special workshop on Oct 4th, 19:00-21:30 at St. Paul’s Church in Chippenham. Special guests:

Julian Chan, Co-Founder of Hongkongers in Britain 英國港僑協會 and head of public Affairs. HKIB is the leading Hongkongers expat/diaspora and community building group in the UK. Their primary objective is to provide assistance, advice and support for the HK community. HKIB work closely with the Government, and Julian will provide a national overview of what is going on and what we can expect.

Andy Hawkins, The Community Church and organiser of the UKHK Festival. Community Church have led the way in developing church-based programmes and activities—socials, language classes, family groups—in North Bristol. Andy will be sharing advice on how best to engage with Hong Kong communities and collaborate in the context of church and society.

Ps. Chee Kit Wai, Bristol Chinese Christian Church. BCCC is Bristol’s largest Chinese church and often the first connection point for may Hong Kongers moving to the city of Bristol. Ps. Wai oversees the English and cantonese speaking congregations at BCCC and will provide some important insights for us.

There will be a time of Q+A and opportunities to discuss best-practice with one another. Open to all.
